EMS donations

Synovate is proud to help the Khartoum Cheshire Home, an independent Non-Governmental Organisation which provides free of charge care and cure for the physically disabled children in Sudan. In the past year this organization has been able to provide 5,500 children with mobility aids, it has treated another 3,000 children in their clinic, and it is aiming to treat a higher number in the coming year with the help of the EMS donations.

Khartoum Cheshire Home (KCH) In Words

Khartoum Cheshire Home (KCH) is a charitable organization founded in 1973 by Lord Leonard Cheshire, the founder of Cheshire Organizations in the World. The Goal of KCH is to provide free of charge care and cure for the physically disabled Children. The services are provided through the various home departments and projects: physiotherapy, orthopedic workshop orthopedic surgery, boarding and lodging of disabled children as well as an outreach and Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR ) programs which covers the needy areas and displaced camps .All services are provided free of charge.

The main and highly credible donor is CBM (Christoffel Blinden mission)

Khartoum Cheshire Home is well recognized and legally registered as an NGO under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs (HAC) , ministry of social affairs and lately with Ministry of Health.

KCH has been for a long time the main organization in Sudan that treats & provides the services for the disabled Children up to the age of 16 ; regardless of race, religion, political or social implications.

For the past 33 years KCH has treated more than 15, 000 Disabled Child. 2977 cases were seen at the clinic in the year 2006. Orthopedic operation has started in 2002 within the new constructed theatre in Cheshire home that will perform operation of about 300 children per year. 288 operations were conducted In the year 2006.

All activities are taken place in Khartoum Center near to the Airport, Eastern Kenana Sugar Co. in Altaif Area on its own property of a plot of approximately 800 sqm. KCH is administrated by General Assembly, an Executive Committee, a Director and Department Managers. Total number of staff is 58 including all medical and supporting staff. The Annual budget is around 200,000 euro.

In the physiotherapy Unit 1383 new patients received physiotherapy sessions seen in the year 2006 and the workshop was able to produce 5541 orthopedic appliances; This was a great achievement in relation to the previous years;it started in 1997 with a number of 224 appliances only. Lately two activities were added which are the Hydrotherapy (treatment by swimming) and Hippo-therapy (treatment by horse riding).

There are also educational and creative activities facilities in addition to a handicraft activities.

KCH is collaborating with the Broader Horizon Institute in Atbara Sudan North , an organization helping children with special needs ,e.g. mentally retarded 2 children in training staff members in Atbara Center and providing physiotherapy and other services on the spot for these children. In return BHI refers children to Khartoum Cheshire Home.

The Western Sudan Union of the Disabled works with Khartoum Cheshire Home in collaboration via the Leprosy Mission, Western Darfour .This organization also refers children to Khartoum Cheshire Home for treatment and operations.

A new project was established under the umbrella of KCH which is the clubfoot Project. The project activities will cover many areas in Sudan like Nyala and Juba to train Doctors and Midwives on a new treatment procedure for children with clubfeet...

In appreciation of the efforts of KCH , the government has provided a new plot to KCH of 3,200 sq.m. adjacent to the current building. All efforts are exerted to build it so that the home activities will expand to cope with the increasing demand on the Home services.
